The Buji Local Government Council of Jigawa has reported the tragic death of a 30-year-old man and his two-year-old son following a devastating building collapse in Madabe village.
Alhaji Ali Safiyanu, the council’s Information Officer, shared the sad news with journalists in Dutse on Monday. He confirmed that the man's 25-year-old wife survived the collapse and is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
According to Safiyanu, the building collapsed on Sunday night as a result of a severe downpour. The incident has prompted a response from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC). Badaruddeen Tijjani, the NSCDC spokesperson, confirmed the event but did not provide the names of the deceased or the survivor. An investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway.
This tragic incident follows severe flooding in the region from Thursday to Sunday, which displaced approximately 400 households and destroyed around 1,000 farms. In response to the crisis, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed relief items to the displaced individuals, who are currently housed in a local school.
