Nine students of the Obafemi Awolowo University got remanded on Friday as an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun issued a remand order for fatally beating an undergraduate to death during their "maximum shishi" action

The defendants committed the crime on April 10 about 8:00 pm at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, according to Police Prosecutor Asp.

Badiora Timilehin, 22, Adegoke Francis, 23, Atilade Adeniyi, 22, Adeyeni Ajibola, 22, Olayiwola Adewumi, 21, Adisa Olamilekan, 24, Igbinyemi Amos, 22, Osode Joshua, 23, and Philip Kayode, 24, were the names of the suspects.

He testified before the court that Okoli Ahize was unjustly killed by the defendants and other individuals still at large.

On a two-count accusation of conspiracy and murder, the defendants’ plea was not accepted, despite the fact that Messrs. Olamide Oladunni and A.R. Abdullateef notified their appearances on behalf of the accused.

The prosecutor was requested by the magistrate, Kike Adebayo, to duplicate their case files and submit them to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) office for legal counsel.

The defendants were to be held at the Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Service, per Adebayo’s order.

The matter was postponed until June 9 2023.
