Twelve out of the twenty-five students from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, who were arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for the alleged murder of fellow student Akro Jeffery, a prince in the Warri kingdom, were discharged on Monday, July 1.

The students had initially faced charges of conspiracy, murder, and negligence following their court appearance on June 5. Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Ogunkanmi adjourned the case for further mention until July 8.

Prosecutor CSP Funke Fawole stated that the offenses were committed on May 24 at approximately 9 p.m. within the university premises. According to Fawole, the defendants unlawfully caused the death of 22-year-old Jeffrey Akro by beating him with planks and electrical wire. Furthermore, security guard Oladoye was accused of failing to intervene and prevent the fatal assault.

These charges were brought under Sections 516, 515, and 324 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
