The Oyo state Governor, Enfr Seyi Makinde has confirmed on his twitter handle that he has been tested positive of the novel coronavirus.

The Governor wil be the third Nigeria Governors that will be tested positive after Bauchi and Kaduna state governors.

Makinde tweeted this evening:

I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate.

The Governor of Oyo state Engr. Seyi Makinde has today confirmed through his twitter handle during his task force update briefing that two out of the active 33 covid19 patients in the state have absconded from the isolation centre and presumably return to their residence.

The governor statement reads in part " We have received more results from pending COVID-19 confirmation tests. The result of one suspected case came back POSITIVE, on 03/05/2020. The person is based in Ibadan.

The results of five suspected cases came back POSITIVE on 04/05/2020. Four of these five cases are immigrants and the last person is an Oyo State resident

The results of five suspected cases came back POSITIVE on 05/05/2020. Four of these five cases are travellers from the Northern part of Nigeria and the last one is an Oyo State resident.

Of the 33 active cases being managed by the state, two have absconded, possibly to their permanent places of residence. This brings the number of active cases in Oyo State to 31.

Ten cases are self-isolating while twenty-one cases are being managed in the isolation centres in Oyo State; one at the University College Hospital, Ibadan & twenty in Olodo. Nineteen of these twenty cases at Olodo are asymptomatic & the last person has anosmia (loss of smell)

A total of 975 samples have so far, been collected and are being processed." The Governor writes

Barely a week after the Governor of Oyo State Engr Seyi Makinde contracted the novel coronavirus, the governor through his twitter handle yesterday night as said he is now free from the virus after being tested twice and the results came out negative.

The Governor tweeted:

I am deeply moved by your prayers and support throughout this period. I am so thankful. This evening, I received my second negative test result for COVID-19. I especially thank Prof Temitope Alonge, who acted in my stead as Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force. 

Meanwhile, the total confirmed cases of the virus in the country has moved to 232 after 8 cases were announced yesterday night.

Yesterday in Niger state isolation centre some suspected COVID-19 patients receiving treatment at a government facility in Minna, the state capital, threatened to discharge themselves over poor treatment.

In a video going viral online, some of the patients expressed anger at the situation, saying they were not comfortable with their feeding arrangement.

They however, requested to be allowed to be in their homes instead of being left to die of hunger at the isolation facility.

Meanwhile, there is tension in the state over the purported escape of a woman from an isolation centre.

It will be recalled that some covid19 patients protested in Gombe state due to poor treatment too.
