The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made a significant interception, seizing a container from Turkey loaded with 844 rifles and 112,500 pieces of live ammunition.



This operation has led to the arrest of three suspects, who are currently in custody as a thorough investigation is underway to ensure all individuals involved face the full extent of the law.


On June 21, 2024, during a physical examination of the container at Onne Port in Rivers State, the contents were revealed. The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, briefed journalists about the seizure, detailing the arms and ammunition discovered. These included 764 units of Tomahawk Jojef Magnum Black Pump Action Rifles, 10 units of VC Verney Caron Gunmakers Jojef Magnum Silver Pump Action Rifles, 50 units of VC Verney Caron Gunmaker Double Barrel Rifles, 20 units of VC Verney Caron Gunmaker Single Barrel Rifles, and a significant amount of Sterling High-Quality Live Ammunition.


The duty-paid value of the container was estimated at N4,171,710,000. Additionally, eight other containers with falsely declared contents, including used clothes and cough syrup with codeine, were seized. These containers had a total duty-paid value of N13,915,710,000.


Comptroller General Adeniyi praised the officers involved in the operation, highlighting their dedication and effectiveness in safeguarding the nation.
