Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe is from Omueke Isiokpo in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State. He was born in Lagos in 1966.

In 2002, Wigwe and his business partner, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede acquired Access Bank. 

With over 6.5 million account holders, 350 branches and more than 1,500 ATMs in major centres across Nigeria, Sub-Saharan Africa and the UK, It's now one of the top five banks in Nigeria and ranked among the top 500 global banks according to a 2015 report by The Banker.

He is married to Chizoba Wigwe they have 4 children: Chizi, Tochi, Hannah and David.

Access Bank Plc on Sunday officially announced the launching of its operation as a new entity by unveiling its new logo after its merger with Diamond Bank.

Following the legal completion of the merger on March 19, the newly launched Access Bank is now one entity, with 28,000 staff across 600 branches and 29 million customers worldwide, the bank said.

Present at the launch held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos was the Emir of Kano, Mohammadu Sanusi II; the founder of Dangote group, Aliko Dangote; the founder of Diamond PLC, Pascal Dozie, among others. Mr Dangote commended the unrelenting passion of Mr Wigwe and his co-pioneer, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, in creating the new entity.

“The real bank which is Access bank is a bank with no struggle today, they know how to wire anything and I won’t be surprised if they take over a bank outside Nigeria.”

Mr Wigwe said the dream of changing the face of banking in Nigeria and Africa started in 2002 with his partner, Mr Aig-Imoukhuede.

With Diamond Bank’s 19 million customers and Access Bank’s 10 million, Mr Wigwe said the merger would create a new institution which would be beyond banking, customers focused, digitally led and operate on a global space and scope.

A 22 year old vulcanizer named Dele Ope has been apprehended by the Abeokuta Operatives of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police for allegedly stealing a pant of one of his customers for money ritual.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who divulged this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday, said the suspect was arrested following a report by a woman who reported at Warewa Division of the State Police command that she discovered that her car tyre has been deflated when she wanted to go out.

She added that this necessitated the woman to invite the suspect who is a vulcaniser to fix the tyre in her house.

“After fixing the tyre and left, she discovered that her pant that was spread on a rope within the compound has been missing”.

“Since the vulcaniser was the only person who came to the compound, she went round in search of him but he is nowhere tobe found

“Upon the report, the DPO Warewa Division,SP Folake Afeniforo detailed detectives to the area where the suspect was traced and arrested”.“

His house was quickly searched and the woman’s pant was recovered there”.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to have stolen the pant with the intention of taking it to a herbalist for money ritual”.

Oyeyemi added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered that the suspect be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
