The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a former military officer, Lance Corporal Aliyu Adamu, for allegedly defrauding three individuals seeking employment.
According to the Command's spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakili, in a statement released on Wednesday, the suspect—originally from Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State—was arrested on charges of impersonation, cheating, criminal misappropriation, and criminal breach of trust.
Wakili disclosed that officers from the 'B' Divisional Police Headquarters made the arrest following complaints from three victims. The victims claimed that Adamu had collected N200,000 from them, promising to secure jobs for them in the Nigerian Army. Despite paying the requested sum, the applicants were never invited to the Nigerian Army Depot for training, as Adamu had assured.
Upon his arrest, Adamu confessed to the crime, revealing that he had been dismissed from the Nigerian Army months prior due to prolonged absenteeism. He admitted to using the funds for personal expenses rather than fulfilling his promises.
The Bauchi State Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant against individuals offering fraudulent employment opportunities. They assured that Lance Corporal Adamu would face prosecution after a thorough investigation.
