In Nasarawa State, a fake soldier identified as Muhammed Haladu was apprehended in the Awe Local Government Area.
The Nasarawa State Command successfully carried out the arrest, as confirmed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the command's spokesperson, in a statement released on Thursday, January 11, 2024.
According to the statement, the imposter was captured donned in full military camouflage by two alert soldiers who were on pass in Awe. Without hesitation, they handed over the fake soldier to the police.
The statement disclosed the circumstances surrounding the arrest: "On 6/1/2024 at about 17: 39 hours, one Muhammed Haladu ‘M’ of behind Ozas Hotel, Karu Abuja was arrested on full military camouflage at Awe LGA by two soldiers who came home on pass and handed him over to the Police at Awe Division."
Haladu claimed to be a soldier attached to the 231 Battalion in Biu, Borno State. However, subsequent investigations revealed the falsehood in his assertions. The imposter had been deceiving unsuspecting individuals by posing as a military personnel and promising them employment in the Nigerian Army.
Preliminary findings indicated that Haladu had attempted to join the military but failed in his efforts. Consequently, he resorted to acquiring a military uniform from barracks, using it for fraudulent activities.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, encouraged them to maintain their dedication in the ongoing battle against criminals in the state. The arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and collaboration in ensuring the safety and security of the community.
