Efe Onoetiyi, along with several accomplices, has been arrested by law enforcement in connection with the tragic death of Paulinus Okon.
Paulinus had been reported missing on September 8, 2024, by his sibling after leaving with Onoetiyi, a 30-year-old acquaintance.
Initially, Efe denied any involvement in Paulinus' disappearance, claiming to have no knowledge of his whereabouts. However, he later visited Paulinus' family, where he was confronted with evidence that he had been with Paulinus on the day he went missing. Despite this, Efe continued to deny any wrongdoing.
Efe returned to the family, requesting a sum of N500,000, claiming it was for consulting a traditional healer who could help locate Paulinus. He deceived the family further, asserting that Paulinus had been abducted. Through this manipulation, Efe successfully extorted N20,715,000 from Paulinus' brother, falsely claiming to be in contact with the alleged kidnappers.
Suspicion grew over Efe's involvement, leading to his arrest. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at the State Police Headquarters in Asaba for a more thorough investigation.
This case highlights the dark lengths to which individuals may go to exploit others in times of crisis, making it a cautionary tale for the community.
