The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, has passed away, marking the end of a monumental 42-year reign.
Oba Adekunle, who ascended the throne on February 20, 1982, from the Aromolaran family, was a revered traditional leader in Yorubaland. His death on Wednesday, following a brief illness, has brought an outpouring of tributes and reflections on his impactful rule.
Security has been reinforced at the palace with the presence of uniformed policemen and operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), ensuring peace and order during this transition period. In a tribute, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Olayinka Fasuyi, shared heartfelt sentiments about the late monarch, celebrating his legacy:
"An Era Comes To An Abrupt End!"
-"The Lion Departs The Forest!"
"The Pride Of Yoruba Traditional Intellectualism Exits!"
"Ijesaland Eulogises The Reign Of Our Owa Obokun Adimula!"
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also expressed his sorrow, noting that Oba Adekunle was more than just a traditional leader but also a father figure. Atiku, whose wife, Titi, is from Ilesa, acknowledged the monarch's legacy of courage, boldness, and discipline, which defined the Ijesha people. Sharing a picture of himself with the late Oba and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Atiku described how the monarch always treated him like a son during his visits.
