The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have attributed the recent killing of soldiers in Aba, Abia State, to political machinations.
On Friday, IPOB issued a statement asserting that politicians aiming to stir unrest in the otherwise peaceful Enyimba city are behind the attack.
IPOB emphasized that its members had no involvement in the incident. According to IPOB's spokesperson, Powerful, the attack was carried out by criminals manipulated by political figures. He clarified that IPOB's current focus is on the sit-at-home order, which is intended to honor their fallen heroes and heroines.
“We condemn the attack on military personnel in Aba. We are not involved because the sit-at-home is for mourning our fallen heroes and heroines, not for attacking anyone. Those blaming IPOB for the attack are misinformed,” said Powerful.
He further warned that politicians are deliberately trying to create turmoil in Enyimba city and urged the governor of Abia State to be vigilant. Powerful insisted that the perpetrators of the attack were criminals, not IPOB members, and reaffirmed the group's commitment to the sit-at-home order as a peaceful remembrance of those who died during the Biafra civil war.
On Thursday, unknown gunmen killed five soldiers in Aba amidst the sit-at-home declared by IPOB, leading to heightened tensions in the area.
