Yinusa Tanko, a prominent figure within the Labour Party and chief spokesperson for the Obi-Datti campaign organization, has voiced his concerns.

Speaking in an interview with ChannelsTV, Tanko lamented that the current crisis could have been averted had the party's leadership heeded the counsel of Peter Obi, their presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

Tanko emphasized that the recently concluded national convention, which reinstated Julius Abure as the national chairman, lacked inclusivity. He highlighted Obi's efforts to intervene and improve the situation, citing instances where Obi advocated for broader consultations with various stakeholders, including trade unions, youth groups, and political leaders with diverse perspectives.

Despite Obi's efforts to offer constructive suggestions and engage with party leadership, Tanko expressed disappointment that these recommendations were not embraced fully. Tanko underscored the importance of adhering to agreements regarding inclusivity within the party's decision-making processes, asserting that the recent convention failed to meet these standards.

Tanko acknowledged Abure's right to contest the national chairmanship position but emphasized the importance of conducting the process in a transparent and inclusive manner. He criticized the breach of the initial agreement to hold an all-inclusive convention from the grassroots level up to the national level.

Addressing concerns about the impact of the party crisis on Obi's political future, Tanko remained confident, stating that Obi is a strong brand in his own right, with unwavering support from his followers.

As the Labour Party grapples with internal discord, Tanko's remarks shed light on the significance of effective leadership and inclusive decision-making processes in navigating turbulent times. It serves as a reminder of the importance of heeding wise counsel and upholding agreements to foster unity and progress within political organizations.
