After three days holiday from Monday to Wednesday, the turnout of Osun state government workers in Osogbo and other big towns in the state was quite low.
It will be recalled that the Osun state government declared Monday as Isese Day (Traditional day) a day that is annually declared by the state government in order for the traditional practitioners to celebrate their religion like others, while the two-day Eid Ad adha holiday, declared by the Federal Government, were also observed on Tuesday and Wednesday which now makes it three work free days for the Osun workers.
Some of the staff are of the opinion that the situation might be because the week was nearly over. One of the officers said: “Normally, when we get holidays that extend to Wednesday and Thursday, the week is already over, so there is no need rushing back from where you travel to. It is not easy to be rushing back to work on a Thursday or Friday to resume work when the next day is weekend, so the best is to just round off the week.”
The turnout of workers in Ilesa and Ile-Ife too was not encouraging because many of the government workers are yet to resume fully to work, some are still celebrating with their family members that came home for Eid el Kabir.
However, the state government has announced that the free train ride will be heading back to Lagos on Sunday and people that came to Osun state for the festival should do well to optimize the opportunity provided by the state government.
