The organized labor unions in Nasarawa State have officially called off their indefinite strike, which was launched in protest against the delayed implementation of the new minimum wage.

The industrial action, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), began following the state government’s failure to meet the December 1 deadline set by the NLC for all states to adopt the new minimum wage structure.

After extensive negotiations with the Nasarawa State Government and interventions from key stakeholders, the labor unions reached a favorable agreement, according to NLC Chairman Ismaila Okoh. Speaking at a press briefing in Lafia on Monday, Okoh confirmed that the government had agreed to implement the minimum wage adjustments, marking a significant win for the workers.

"A finalized template for the consequential adjustments of the minimum wage for workers on Grade Levels 7 to 16 has been established," Okoh stated.

Echoing this sentiment, TUC Chairman Mohammed Doma announced that the payment of the adjusted minimum wage, including arrears, will take effect from December 1.

This resolution brings relief to workers in Nasarawa State and underscores the importance of dialogue in resolving labor disputes. The move is expected to boost morale among civil servants and ensure compliance with the new wage policy nationwide.
