According to Dr.
Mustapha Aliyu, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the choice of a Muslim as Bola Ahmed Tinubu's (APC) vice presidential running mate will cause religious strife in Nigeria, disarray among the populace, and stress among the poor.
Speaking to Naijacrawl in Kaduna on Monday, Aliyu observed that as no faith is superior to another, Muslim-Christian tickets have been a common occurrence in Nigeria since the country's democratic transition.
"It is blatantly obvious that certain individuals want to label this nation as a Muslim nation. We have qualified Christians in addition to qualified Muslims. What prevented him from choosing one of the available Christians? He queried.
As a result of their lack of influence at the national level, he further voiced concern that once Tinubu achieves his goals and plans, Christianity in Nigeria will become a forgotten religion.
In other states with Muslim-Muslim governorship tickets, he claimed, Christians suffered greatly. He also stated that Christians were the most frequently attacked and the most frequently fired from state government ministries and parastatals.
He claimed that it is obvious that some Nigerian factions oppose Christianity when it comes to nominations to high-level positions in the Federal Government.
He bemoaned how this nation had evolved into one in which "my faith is more important than your own" and "you have no voice in anything."
He said our past leaders; Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Sir Ahmadu Bello, see all Nigerians as brothers and sisters, adding that their cooperation as one entity led to the growth of Nigeria until bad elements and criminals eroded our values.
