A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, found George Turnah guilty of the charges against him and sentenced him to jail time.

Turnah was a former special adviser to Dan Abia, the former managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Turnah, a political godson of former president Goodluck Jonathan, received a six-year sentence along with two others for obtaining money through deceptive means.

Aside from Turnah, two other people have received sentences: Ebis Orubebe and Uzorgor Chidebere.

Additionally, they were found guilty of forgery, money laundering, and fund conversion by the presiding judge, Justice A. T. Mohammed.

Their violations of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offenses Act, 2006's Section 1 (1) (a) were illegal and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.

They were initially charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in May 2017, and on January 25, 2021, they were charged again.

They were arraigned on 23 counts bordering on obtaining by false pretense, money laundering, and abuse of office to the tune of N2,894,500,000.

The EFCC confirmed this on Monday through its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren.

Uwujaren’s statement said, “They were jailed on Thursday, September 7, 2023, having been found guilty of charges preferred against them by the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.”

According to the statement, they pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.
