The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced that its Air Component of "Operation Delta Safe" has successfully destroyed numerous illegal oil refining sites and barges transporting stolen crude oil products across Rivers State.

In a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, AVM Edward Gabkwet, on Wednesday in Abuja, it was disclosed that the destruction took place between Monday and Tuesday in various locations including Bille, Dariama, Elem Bekinkiri, Temakiri, Opumakiri, and Degema.

According to Gabkwet, the operation targeted a barge carrying illegal refined products in the creeks of Bille, which was swiftly neutralized. Additionally, active illegal refining sites were discovered and destroyed at Dariama and Tumakiri, while abandoned sites were identified at Elem Bekinkiri and Opumakiri.

Furthermore, several active illegal refining sites were encountered at Degema, where reservoirs filled with illegally refined products were engaged and set ablaze.

It was noted that some of the previously destroyed sites at Bille and Dariama had been reactivated, highlighting the ongoing challenges in combating oil theft in the region.

Gabkwet emphasized the commitment of the NAF and other security agencies to intensify efforts in uncovering and disrupting the activities of oil thieves not only in Rivers State but also across the entire region.

This proactive approach underscores the determination to safeguard Nigeria's natural resources and promote security and stability in the Niger Delta region.
