The National Food and Drugs Agency of Nigeria (NAFDAC) has dismantled an illegal production site for counterfeit alcoholic beverages on Offin Road, Balogun, Lagos Island.
Acting on a public complaint, NAFDAC officials raided the makeshift factory in the Oke Arin market, uncovering a shop repurposed for manufacturing and packaging fake alcohol. During the operation, three individuals were apprehended, and counterfeit drinks, empty bottles, and packaging materials valued at over ₦180 million were confiscated.
The primary suspect, Mr. Tochukwu Henry, confessed to refilling bottles labeled as Rémy Martin with ST-Rémy content. He also admitted to employing two accomplices to assist in the operation.
NAFDAC has assured that all suspects are in custody for further investigation and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health. The agency urges Nigerians to remain vigilant during the festive season and to report suspicious activities or counterfeit products to the nearest NAFDAC office.
