The Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other Security Agencies (PSNASA) has paid a heartfelt tribute to Lt.

Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza, a dedicated Nigerian Navy officer who made the ultimate sacrifice while rescuing a vessel in distress.

Lt. Commander Gwaza's courageous actions serve as a powerful reminder of the unwavering dedication of naval personnel and security agents who risk their lives daily to protect others. During a perilous rescue operation, Gwaza led his team to save 59 people aboard the MV AMBIKA 4, a dredging vessel on the brink of sinking at Okpobo field in the Niger Delta.

Despite facing treacherous conditions, Gwaza ensured the safety of everyone on board. Tragically, he lost his own life in the process. His heroism and sacrifice will forever be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire others.

In a statement from its Convener, Ambassador Mary Abayomi Fatile, PSNASA made a heartfelt appeal for Nigerians to unite in showing appreciation for the selfless sacrifices of security agents like the late Lt. Commander Gwaza. Ambassador Fatile highlighted the need for collective support and recognition of the bravery and dedication of those who put the needs of others before their own, often at great personal cost.

The statement read: “PSNASA extends its deepest condolences to the Nigerian Navy over the loss of Lt. Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza, who recently paid the ultimate price while rescuing a vessel in distress. His selfless act of bravery in saving 59 lives aboard the MV AMBIKA 4, despite dangerous conditions, stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication.

“Gwaza’s sacrifice exemplifies the valor and commitment of naval personnel and other security agents, including military, police, and emergency responders, who risk their lives every day to protect us. Although some of these brave individuals make the ultimate sacrifice, their contributions will never be forgotten.”
