In a recent statement, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) revealed remarkable achievements by troops engaged in internal operations across the nation over the past week.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed that the troops had dealt a significant blow to insurgent activities.

According to the report, a total of 188 terrorists were eliminated, 330 others apprehended, and 133 hostages were successfully rescued during operations. Additionally, 36 suspected oil thieves were arrested, and stolen products valued at N637.7 million were recovered.

The recovered arsenal included a staggering 270 assorted weapons and 5,083 assorted ammunition. Among the seized weapons were 122 AK47 rifles, 47 locally fabricated guns, and a variety of other firearms. The inventory also listed explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), underlining the diverse threats faced by security forces.

Furthermore, troops uncovered and destroyed illegal refining sites in the Niger Delta region. A total of 21 illegal refining sites, 51 dugout pits, and 24 boats were dismantled. Additionally, 672,350 litres of stolen crude oil and 90,530 litres of illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil) were recovered.

The DHQ's efforts extended beyond combat operations to tackle the root causes of insecurity, such as illegal oil bunkering. The successful operations not only safeguarded lives and property but also disrupted criminal networks and economic sabotage activities.

In conclusion, the recent achievements underscore the dedication and effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces in combating various security challenges across the country. The DHQ's commitment to ensuring peace and stability remains unwavering as they continue to safeguard the nation's sovereignty and protect its citizens.
