Title: Ogun State Police Uncover Serial Rapist, Kidnapper, and Cult Leader in Ijebu-Ode
In a significant breakthrough, the Ogun State Police Command has apprehended an alleged serial rapist, kidnapper, and murderer, identified as AbdulAzeez Ibrahim, in the Imaweje community of Ijebu-Ode on Sunday.
The arrest, conducted by the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, unfolded in the early hours of the day at around 2:30 am.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, disclosed to PUNCH Online that Ibrahim was not only a notorious criminal but also a prominent figure within the Neo-Movement, also known as the Aye Confraternity. Ibrahim, referred to as "Butcher," held the position of the second in command within the confraternity and served as the custodian of all weapons utilized by the gang to terrorize communities in Ijebu-Ode.
According to Odutola, Ibrahim, who claimed to be a final-year student at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijegun, was wanted in connection to a kidnapping case and had a history of being a serial rapist and murderer. The arrest followed meticulous intelligence gathering, leading the SWAT team to Ibrahim's hideout, where they uncovered a cache of weapons and charms.
The recovered items included a serviceable Beretta fully loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, a pump-action Rifle-Josef with 10 rounds of live cartridges, an English long double barrel rifle, two locally made short single barrel rifles, one locally made short single barrel with two rounds of live ammunition, and assorted charms, including body armor.
Odutola highlighted the commitment of the state commissioner of police, Abiodun Alamutu, to eradicate notorious criminal elements in the state. The commissioner has vowed to clamp down on criminal syndicates engaged in activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and cultism.
The arrest of AbdulAzeez Ibrahim comes amidst a surge in cult activities and killings in Ogun state. Recent incidents have resulted in multiple casualties and arrests. The police, recognizing the gravity of the situation, have undertaken various operations to curb the rise of cultism in the state. In a September 2023 operation, the SWAT team arrested Ogunnibi Hammed, a suspected kingpin of the Eiye Confraternity, along with 18 other alleged members of the gang. Hammed was notorious for his involvement in brutal attacks against rival cult groups in the state, according to police reports.
