The Office of the National Security Advisers (ONSA) has confirmed that Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance's regional manager for Africa, has escaped from custody.
Anjarwalla and his colleague, Tigran Gambaryan, were detained in an Abuja guest house on March 22, 2024, for alleged tax evasion.
According to a statement by Zakari Mijinyawa, the head of strategic communication at ONSA, Anjarwalla fled Nigeria using a smuggled passport.
Mijinyawa added that the personnel responsible for the suspect's custody have been arrested, and an investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding his escape.
In response to the incident, Binance emphasized that the safety of its manager is their top priority. The company stated that it is collaborating with Nigerian authorities to address the situation.
