The Orsu Police Divisional Headquarters in Imo State has resumed its essential police and security functions after being temporarily closed due to escalating terror activities attributed to suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the area.

The reopening follows a recent military operation conducted by the Nigerian Army in Ihiteukwa community, Orsu Local Government Area (LGA), aimed at dismantling the hideouts of IPOB/ESN members.

According to the Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, the operation resulted in the neutralization of one suspect and the successful clearance of the hideout. The troops recovered a cache of weapons and other incriminating materials, including improvised explosive devices (IEDs), vehicles, ammunition, and assorted paraphernalia associated with the proscribed groups.

In response to the operation's success, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, alongside key officials and operatives of the state's Special Task Force, undertook a confidence-building patrol in Orlu, Orsu, and Oru East LGAs. The objective of this patrol was to restore public trust in security agencies and enhance community engagement in the fight against crime and criminality in the region.

Hon. Francis Uche Agabige, representing Orsu State Constituency, and Hon. Engr Friday Ibekaeme, a local leader, joined the Commissioner of Police in assessing the security situation and devising collaborative strategies to ensure the safety and prosperity of the affected areas.
