It was a saddened Saturday in Jos yesterday as groom-to-be with name Samuel Yarling, of Lamingo, Jos, has died on his wedding day and the shock has led to his bride-to-be and both families to be devastated.

The wedding which was slated for March 21, at the ECWA Church Seminary, had sent two families into mourning after the sudden death of the groom.

Late Yarling was set to marry his heartthrob, Miss Helen Weze, a nurse, who according to the family is currently on admission at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BHUT) after going into shock, on learning about her soon-to-be husband’s death.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who spoke with a family member said that late Yarling was full of life before his untimely death.

He revealed that both himself and the late groom had gone to pick his wedding suit at his sister’s house at about 12 am and while there he fell on the ground and had a slight bruise on his head.

He said "his bruise was treated at a nearby patent medicine store while they left for their guest house where they could pass the night."

Stating more, he said that after about an hour of their arrival at the guest house the late Yarling began to vomit uncontrollably.

He said that it made him call for help and he was rushed to Bingham University Teaching Hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead on arrival.

He described his death as shocking and painful because late Yarling kept telling him he was fine until everything took a different turn and he died in his arms.

However, the sudden death may have occurred as a result of seizure and internal bleeding of which the local medicine store failed to detect.

May God console the families at this trying time.

A Sri Lankan couple are under investigation for using hundreds of school children to carry the train of the bride’s saree during a wedding ceremony.

About 250 students carried the train of the two-mile long saree worn by the bride, as she and the groom walked down a main road in the centre of the Kandy.

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said using students for such ceremonies during school hours was against the law, with violators facing up to 10 years in prison.

The saree is the longest ever worn by a bride in Sri Lanka and another 100 students, from the state-owned school, served as flower girls at the wedding.

The students were from a school named after Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka, who was a special guest at the wedding,

‘We have started an investigation. We are going all out because we don’t want this to become a trend,’ said NCPA Chairman Marini de Livera.

‘What they (the wedding party) did is a violation of child rights,’ de Livera said. ‘Depriving children of education, risking their security and harming their dignity are criminal offences.’
