The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Inyangake James Peter, for allegedly killing his 70-year-old mother, Mma-Offiong James Peter.
The arrest was confirmed by the command's spokesperson, CSP Odiko Macdon, in a statement released on Monday, April 15th, 2024. Macdon expressed the police force's concern over the rise in cases involving family members harming their relatives.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on April 4th, 2024, at around 9:00 am in Ikpe Annang Village, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. The suspect, Inyangake James Peter, reportedly confessed to the crime and claimed he heard a voice instructing him to kill his mother.
"The suspect who confessed to the crime has been transferred to the State CID for discrete investigation," Macdon's statement reads. "The suspect on interrogation alleged that he had a voice saying 'kill her', 'kill her' and he decided to oblige."
Following the investigation's completion, Inyangake James Peter is expected to face charges in court.
