The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation has told chairmen of local government councils in the state to stop harassing commercial motorcyclists operating in their domains.
The chairman of the committee, Oludaisi Elemide, asked council chairmen to prevail on “unauthorized individuals harassing Okada riders in their council areas” under the guise of enforcing traffic rules and the use of crash helmets.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the state's Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and Elemide, who delivered the warning during a meeting with various motorcycle unions on Wednesday at the assembly complex in Abeokuta, are still in charge of enforcing traffic laws and regulations.
“The government will not hesitate to hand over anyone caught harassing the riders to law enforcement agents,” he stressed.
The politician explained that he had received a ton of complaints from bike riders and their unions regarding the antics of criminals who claimed to have been employed by some local government councils.
According to Naijacrawl, people without any kind of identification have continued to take advantage of bike riders for allegedly breaking traffic laws.
