Electricity consumers in three states which include Gombe, as well as certain areas in Yola and Bauchi states, are advised to brace for a temporary power outage on Friday.

The scheduled disruption is due to planned maintenance work on power facilities by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The TCN has officially announced that its maintenance crew will be conducting preventive maintenance on the bay of its T1A 150MVA, 330/132/33kV transformer bay on January 18 and 19, 2024. The maintenance window is set to last for eight hours each day, from 9 am to 5 pm.

According to Ndidi Mbah, the TCN General Manager of Public Affairs, to facilitate the maintenance exercise, "TCN would transfer the load from T1A 150MVA transformer to its T2A 150MVA transformer in the same substation." This transfer process is expected to result in an interruption of bulk power supply to Jos and Yola Distribution Companies (DisCos) through the T1A transformer.

Mbah clarified that the interruption would specifically impact bulk supply during the transfer period and not for the entire eight-hour duration of the maintenance exercise on both days. The short outage is expected to affect power supply to Gombe and certain parts of Yola and Bauchi states exclusively during the transfer time on both days.

Emphasizing a swift restoration plan, Mbah assured consumers that TCN would promptly restore bulk power supply through the transformer immediately after completing the maintenance exercise. This proactive approach aims to minimize inconvenience and ensure a smooth resumption of power services for affected regions. Stay tuned for updates and further information as the maintenance process unfolds.
