The Edo State Police Command has revealed the harrowing details of how 17-year-old Arthur Angel Jr.
murdered his 70-year-old father, Arthur Judah Angel, over money anticipated from Amnesty International. Public Relations Officer SP Chidi Nwabuzor informed newsmen in Benin City that the young suspect, who had repeatedly threatened his father, killed him with a sledgehammer and buried him in a shallow grave behind their house.
The tragic incident unfolded on July 15, 2024, when the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ugboha division received a complaint from Arthur Angel Jr. about discovering a shallow grave at their residence. The police quickly mobilized and exhumed the body, revealing the lifeless body of Arthur Judah Angel with a sharp injury on his head. The body was subsequently taken to Uromi Hospital mortuary.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect believed his father had received the money from Amnesty International and decided to kill him by hitting him with a sledgehammer while he slept. The suspect has been transferred to the homicide section of the Edo State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The incident occurred in Ugboha community, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State. Until his untimely death, Arthur Judah Angel was an anti-death penalty advocate and human rights defender, actively working through his foundation, Life Wire International Foundation, to combat the death penalty in Nigeria.
