In Umunneochi LGA of Abia State, a man identified as Marcel Udeh has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his own son.
The shocking motive behind this tragic act was reportedly a dispute over the last portion of food in the family's kitchen.
According to a community source, Mr. Udeh became infuriated when his son returned home and consumed the remaining portion of food from a pot in the kitchen without seeking permission from him. This seemingly trivial action escalated into a horrifying incident that led to the loss of the young man's life.
In a fit of rage, Mr. Udeh is alleged to have retrieved a gun from his room and fatally shot his son, resulting in the untimely death of the victim. Community members promptly apprehended Mr. Udeh, restraining him by tying his hands and placing him beside the lifeless body of his child.
There are conflicting accounts of the incident, with another version suggesting that the suspect used a sharp object on his son, leading to the fatal outcome. Despite the differing narratives, Mr. Udeh, now in police custody, is reported to be pleading for mercy and expressing regret for his actions, attributing them to the influence of the devil.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Abia State Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident, stating that it was reported at the Umunneochi Division. The suspect has been arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
