The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, has issued a stern warning to the governors of the six southwestern states, urging them to act swiftly in response to reports of bandits relocating to the region in large numbers.
This call to action comes after Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, raised concerns about bandits fleeing military operations in the northwest, now posing a grave threat to the southwest.
In a statement issued through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, Iba Gani Adams emphasized the urgent need for proactive measures, highlighting that insecurity in the region has reached alarming levels.
“The alarm raised by Governor Seyi Makinde is a wake-up call for all the governors in the South West,” Adams remarked. “I raised a similar alarm last year, but unfortunately, no concrete action was taken. Insecurity has only worsened since then.”
Adams also praised the tireless efforts of the South West Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG), a coalition he leads, in safeguarding the region. The group comprises notable organizations such as the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Agbekoya Society, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Professional Hunters, and others.
He called on the governors to prioritize security, implement effective structures, and collaborate with local security groups to address the growing menace.
With insecurity becoming a pressing issue, Adams’ appeal highlights the critical need for united and immediate action to safeguard lives and properties in the southwest.
