In a harrowing incident reported on Saturday, March 23, suspected terrorists launched a brazen attack on a military base situated in Gujba town, within the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Tragically, the assault resulted in the loss of a soldier's life.

Confirming the attack, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, provided details on Sunday. He disclosed that the suspected terrorists not only attacked the military base but also set ablaze a military patrol vehicle in the process.

Abdulkarim stated, "The only thing I can confirm to you now is the attack. A soldier was killed, and troops and CJTF engaged the suspected terrorists."

Eyewitness accounts from reliable local sources further painted a picture of chaos and terror unleashed by the attackers. The suspected insurgents reportedly descended upon the town around midnight, unleashing a barrage of gunfire and launching an assault on the military base. However, the troops and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members swiftly retaliated, pushing back the assailants into the surrounding bush.

One resident of Gujba, Modu Bahna, recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating, "They (suspected terrorists) stormed the town some minutes after midnight, shooting sporadically, and the majority of us took to our heels into the surrounding bushes for our dear lives."

Fortunately, there were no reports of civilian casualties or looting of essential supplies during the attack. Dala Bukar, another local source, affirmed, "They only attacked the two patrol vehicles in the military base where a soldier was killed."

As investigations into the incident continue, the community remains on high alert, grappling with the aftermath of the violent assault on their doorstep. Such attacks underscore the persistent security challenges facing the region and the ongoing efforts required to safeguard lives and restore peace in affected areas.
