The death of Sheikh Tijani Olayiwola Balogun, the top imam in Ikeja, has prompted a response from President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement provided to the Daily Post by Ajuri Ngelale, the President's Special Adviser on Media, Tinubu expressed his sincere condolences to the Muslim community nationwide and the residents of Lagos State over the cleric's passing.

The Islamic preacher passed away on August 11 and was buried at his home in Ikeja on Friday, September 1, following Jumat prayers.

Tinubu described Balogun as a deeply religious and patriotic Nigerian.

The Nigerian president claims that the cleric has made a significant contribution to the peaceful coexistence that currently exists in Lagos State between Muslims and followers of other religions.

The President said he was deeply saddened by the demise of the Chief Imam and urged those he left behind to be consoled by his good deeds.

“I join the Chief Imam’s family, the people of Ikeja, and the Muslim Ummah across the country in celebrating Sheikh Balogun and in commending him for his useful contributions to Islam and humanity at large.
“I pray that Almighty Allah accepts his return, rewards his good work, and grants him Aljanna Firdaus,” the President prayed.
