Iluyomade, who also heads the Apapa Family of the RCCG, has been suspended for three months by the church's Governing Council. A panel has been established to investigate various allegations against him and the parish.

The suspension follows public criticism over an extravagant birthday party for Iluyomade's wife, held shortly after the death of former Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe. This led the church to take action in response to the outcry.

Pastor Charles Kpandei from RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11 has replaced Iluyomade. Kpandei began his duties at the City of David on Sunday, June 2, receiving a lukewarm reception.

A source within the church shared insights into the decision-making process: “Those in the City of David had been expecting Pastor Kpandei. Some top RCCG officials had to meet with influential members of the parish to explain that Pastor Idowu would need to be removed. Given Pastor Iluyomade's significant influence, the RCCG had to handle the situation discreetly. He may not return to the parish after the suspension."

With just three months until the RCCG convention, the suspension may be a prelude to a more permanent reassignment for Iluyomade, who has spent many years at the City of David parish.
