Following the incident that shocked the financial community, preliminary reports from United States authorities suggest that the helicopter crash claiming the life of Access Holding Plc's Group Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, son, and others was influenced by wintry weather conditions.

During a media briefing held at 3 am Nigerian time on Sunday, National Transportation Safety Board member Michael Graham addressed the press, revealing that officials were present at the crash site to collect perishable evidence. According to Graham, witness reports indicated adverse weather conditions at the time of the accident, involving rain and a wintry mix.

He further disclosed that the helicopter involved in the crash was not equipped with a cockpit voice recorder or a flight data recorder, devices not mandatory for this type of helicopter. Graham clarified, "This helicopter was not required to be equipped with those types of recording devices."

Responding to inquiries about additional details on the passengers, Graham mentioned that no information was available at the moment. He assured that any names would be released through the coroner's office, without specifying a timeline.

Access Bank confirmed the tragic news of Herbert Wigwe's death and that of his family members in an official statement issued on Sunday. The financial industry mourns the loss of a respected leader, and as investigations unfold, the focus remains on understanding the circumstances surrounding the helicopter crash and its connection to the wintry weather conditions prevalent at the time.
