Hon.
Yusuf Gagdi, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, has refuted reports circulating in certain media outlets claiming that he called for an investigation into President Bola Tinubu regarding savings from subsidy removal. Gagdi dismissed these reports as mischievous and emphasized that it is not in his nature to use certain language or imply any negative motives about an administration that is actively working to uplift Nigerians out of poverty and improve overall conditions for the majority.
The alleged statement suggesting that Gagdi called for a probe of President Tinubu over subsidy removal savings reportedly originated from an interview with BBC Hausa Service, a claim that Gagdi strongly denied. In a statement released on Sunday, he urged the media to maintain thoroughness in reporting and uphold its integrity, especially when it involves translation.
Gagdi clarified that, in the interview conducted in Hausa, he commended the President's courage in removing the fuel subsidy, emphasizing the necessity of its elimination as it primarily benefited a select few while neglecting the majority of Nigerians. He explained that he acknowledged the savings resulting from the subsidy removal and emphasized the importance of judicious spending to ensure that the majority of Nigerians could experience the positive impacts of the subsidy removal.
Expressing surprise at the sensational headlines in the media, Gagdi labeled them as irresponsible, reckless, and designed to create a false narrative pitting him against the hardworking and committed President and his Renewed Hope Agenda. He affirmed his unwavering commitment to the APC party, its goals, and, most importantly, President Tinubu's objective to renew hope and facilitate positive change in the country.
