The immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has distanced himself from campaign posters linking him to the position of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A statement released by the media office of the former governor on Tuesday attributed the campaign to the "handiwork of some opposition leaders and some 5th columnists within the party."
The media office emphasized that the insinuation of Alhaji Yahaya Bello vying for the position of National Chairmanship of the APC is baseless and intended to discredit the former governor.
The statement read, "Parts of the plans already being hatched include the circulation of campaign posters with the picture of His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Bello, CON, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, insinuating that he is contesting for the position of the National Chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress. The insinuation is infantile and false and should be disregarded."
Clarifying the current status of the party's internal processes, the media office asserted, "Our party is not in the process of conducting Congresses or a Convention; therefore, there is absolutely no basis for anyone to circulate any posters for party offices."
The statement also made it clear that Alhaji Yahaya Bello did not authorize anyone to circulate campaign posters on his behalf. It emphasized his commitment to the leadership of the National Chairman of the Party, His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
"We urge members of the general public to disregard the mischief of the people circulating posters to create a false impression," the statement concluded. This clarification aims to dispel any misconceptions and set the record straight regarding Alhaji Yahaya Bello's political intentions.
