A helicopter in a convoy carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has allegedly crashed in East Azerbaijan, according to several media reports on Sunday.

Rescue teams are currently attempting to reach the site of the "incident," as reported by state television. Details about the crash, including the condition of the helicopter and the identities of those on board, remain unclear.

Iran's Finance Minister Amir Abdollahian was also reportedly aboard the helicopter with President Raisi.

According to the Tehran Times, the presidential convoy included three helicopters, two of which safely reached their destination. President Raisi was visiting East Azerbaijan province to inaugurate the Qiz-Qalasi Dam.

Iran operates a variety of helicopters, but international sanctions have made it challenging to obtain parts for maintenance. Additionally, much of the country's military air fleet dates back to before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
