Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi has celebrated her record appearance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The center-back makes history as the first African footballer, male or female, to play in six World Cups after stepping onto the field in the Super Falcons’ 0-0 draw against the Republic of Ireland on Monday.
Ebi replaced Oluwatosin Demehin in the 84th minute of the keenly contested encounter.
The Super Falcons also progressed to the Round of 16 after finishing second in Group B behind co-hosts Australia.
The 40-year-old took to social media to express her feelings.
“Thank you, Lord, for your Grace. Thank you, Nigerians. Thank you, Africa, for your support. Onto the next level, Weldon Chicas,” the center-back wrote on her Twitter handle.
The Super Falcons will be the first-place team in Group A in the Round of 16 next Monday.
