The ace Arsenal football manager; Arsene Wenger has named the former Nigeria skipper; Nwankwo Kanu ahead of the Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as his best January signing while he was the manager of Arsenal.

It will be noted that Kanu joined the Gunners in 1999 after making the move from Inter Milan for a fee of £4.15million and he quickly became an important player in the second half of his first season.

He came off the bench in his first few games, netting goals against Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa and north London rivals Tottenham.

Kanu who scored 17 goals in his first full season, including a 15-minute hat-trick against Chelsea, and helped his side reach the UEFA Cup final.

When newsmen asked about his best piece of business in the January window, Wenger opted for the Nigerian over Aubameyang, who he signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

'What a difficult question. Over 20 years, maybe Kanu. In the middle of the season. That had a big impact and he was a huge player,'

Kanu was popular among Arsenal fans during his five-and-a-half years at the club. He was part of the Invincibles team from 2003-2004 and managed 43 Premier League goals in 195 games.

He went on to play for West Brom and Portsmouth where he finished his career in 2012.

Wenger signed Aubameyang from Dortmund for what was a club record fee of £56m.

The striker managed 10 goals in the remainder of the 2017-2018 before scoring 31 in all competitions during his first full season at the club.

However, Wenger who is FIFA's chief of global football development, revealed he is not a supporter of the mid-season transfer window and believes it should be scrapped.

'No, I am not [in favour of it]. Because I think it is like a race in a marathon where you change the shoes halfway,' he added.

'It is not right, when once you have started the season, you have to finish the season with the same players.

'Or you keep it open the whole season like it was when I arrived in England. They have chosen a rule that is not right.'

The Manchester City manager is adamant he never intended to part with his England international winger and has hinted at another move for a top target. Alexis Sanchez ,Pep Guardiola insists Manchester City never intended using Raheem Sterling in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez, but has refused to rule out a January raid on Arsenal for the Chilean forward. City identified Sanchez as a top target over the summer and spent much of the transfer window attempting to put a deal in place With the Chilean entering the final year of his contract at Emirates Stadium, Guardiola¡¯s side pushed their efforts as high as 0„560 million in an effort to get a move pushed through. It was also suggested that England international Sterling could be offered to Arsenal in an effort to strengthen the deal, but the deadline passed with no agreement reached. Guardiola claims no exchange was ever considered, telling reporters: ¡°Arsenal were keen on a swap deal with Alexis and Raz but I spoke with them and said no chance. Absolutely no chance. Zero chance.¡±The Catalan coach has, however, hinted that City retain their interest in Sanchez.

They will have to wait until January before addressing the situation again, and anything could happen before then. Guardiola is ruling nothing out, though, at this stage and will assess his needs in the New Year before deciding whether to rekindle his efforts to sign a player he has previously worked with at Barcelona. He added on the Sanchez saga: ¡°Sometimes deals happen, sometimes not.¡°I don¡¯t know what will happen in the winter time. He is an Arsenal player.¡±City already have plenty of attacking firepower on their books to see them through the first half of the season. The Nigeria born British professional boxer, Anthony Joshua has named the professional boxers he will like to engage before he hang the glove.

Anthony Joshua has named seven fighters he could face before he hangs up his gloves.

The heavyweight world champion is due to defend his three belts against Kubrat Pulev this summer.

Originally slated for June 20, the clash has been rescheduled due to the outbreak coronavirus.

But assuming he retains his titles, Joshua will then set his sights on a plethora of rivals.

When asked who he could face, he told Sky Sports: “[Oleksandr] Usyk, [Deontay] Wilder, [Tyson] Fury, [Luis] Ortiz.

“Who else? I think that’s probably the majority. Adam Kownacki, Jarrell Miller… you know, that’s six names.”

Joshua went on to add Dillian Whyte to the mix having beaten his domestic foe in 2015.

“I know he’s been chasing a world title shot. I offered him a world title shot last year in April, he refused it.

“Maybe he wants his hand on the WBC, but if me and Tyson Fury fight, then I know he didn’t want to fight me last year, but he’ll definitely have to fight me this time, if he wants his hands on the WBC belt.

“Once I’ve beaten Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte can come and get this work as well. It won’t be that good, it will be one-sided.”

Joshua and Fury had hoped to clash at the end of the year but the pandemic looks to have put paid to that prospect.

1. Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Usyk

2. Deontay Leshun Wilder

3. Tyson Luke Fury

4. Luis Ortiz
