AS Roma has officially parted ways with head coach Jose Mourinho after a string of disappointing performances.
The Giallorossi have struggled, winning just one of their last six Serie A games, and currently occupy the ninth position in the league standings. Mourinho, who was in his third season with Roma, had a contract set to expire in June.
The decision comes on the heels of Roma's elimination from the Coppa Italia by city rivals Lazio, a match where Mourinho found himself sent off. The 60-year-old had taken charge of Roma in 2021, spending two-and-a-half years at the helm. During his tenure, Mourinho secured the Europa Conference League title in 2022 and led the team to the Europa League final last season, where they faced a penalty shootout defeat against Sevilla.
The official statement from the club expressed gratitude to Mourinho, acknowledging his passion and efforts during his time with AS Roma. Despite the positive memories, the club believes that an immediate change is necessary for the best interests of the team. This marks the end of Mourinho's tenure with AS Roma as they now set their sights on a new direction to navigate the challenges ahead in Serie A.
