Wout Weghorst, a forward for Burnley, has been signed by Manchester United on a temporary basis to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo.

WHAT OCCURED? After accepting a £2.5 million compensation fee from United, Besiktas agreed to permit the Dutch forward's one-year loan agreement to be terminated. After joining Burnley from Wolfsburg in the winter of 2022, Weghorst was initially loaned to the Turkish club in the summer of that same year. At Old Trafford, where he will remain through the conclusion of the current season, the 30-year-old has now made his comeback to English football.

Following Cristiano Ronaldo's mutually agreeable departure from the club in November, United manager Erik ten Hag made it clear that he wanted to sign a replacement striker. Prior to Chelsea swooping in to sign the Portuguese star in a loan deal reportedly worth £10 million ($12 million), they were reportedly leading the race to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid at one point. Even though Weghorst only scored twice in 20 Premier League appearances for Burnley last season, he has been signed instead, and United will not have the option to purchase him outright in the summer.
