Rangers coach, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, has defended his player, Aaron Ramsey, after his missed penalty cost the Scottish giants their Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night in Spain.

The Europa League final went to extra time and then a penalty shootout after Joe Aribo’s goal was cancelled out by Rafael Borre as the match ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

Ramsey’s low effort was saved by Frankfurt keeper Kevin Trapp after James Tavernier, Steven Davis, and Scott Arfield all scored their penalties.

Borre then scored Frankfurt’s fifth penalty to secure the Europa League for the Bundesliga side.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Van Bronckhorst said: “It is never nice to lose and so everyone is hurt and disappointed. You can sense that in the locker room." I think it is also normal to feel so short after the game.

“Aaron [Ramsey], of course, was disappointed. But he took responsibility and paid the penalty.
“You can make it or you can miss it. Unfortunately for us, he didn’t make it, but you want to have players taking penalties and who are comfortable also. ”
He added: “I think we prepared well for penalties."
“In the penalty kicks, some players are comfortable taking penalties. We had a few who were comfortable taking penalties and others who didn’t want to take one.
“We had to adjust it because of the subs." Borna had to go out, and he was one of the first penalty kickers. ”
