Stan Collymore, a former Liverpool striker, has urged England manager Gareth Southgate to start Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back for the Reds at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In Group B of the 2022 World Cup, England will compete against Iran, the United States, and Wales.
This season, Alexander-Arnold has come under fire due to Liverpool's sluggish Premier League start.
However, Collymore thinks the 24-year-old is a unique football player and ought to start against Iran.
“I think Trent Alexander-Arnold should have gotten more game time for England. "He's a special footballer,” Collymore told CaughtOffside.
“The suggestion that teams would go into games and target Alexander-Arnold is absurd. "He's one of the best in the world in his position.”
He added, “I would play Alexander-Arnold in the first game; I think it would be exciting." I like his ability to switch plays, and I don’t see the poor defensive ability that others see. He gives you so much more going forward.
“He can put a cross in just inside the opposition half that Walker and Trippier can’t do." I would throw Trent in.”
