Glenn Hoddle has outlined the sole prerequisite that Chelsea's owners would have to meet in order for Graham Potter to continue leading the Stamford Bridge team.

After losing 1-0 to Manchester City on Thursday night, Chelsea held onto the tenth spot in the Premier League.

The Etihad team's lone goal of the game, scored by substitute Riyad Mahrez, cut the distance between them and first-place Arsenal to five.

Regarding Potter's future at Stamford Bridge, there are uncertainties.

In September 2022, after Thomas Tuchel had been fired by Boehly, Potter was brought on as a replacement.

Chelsea spent about £280 million on new players in preparation for the 2022–23 season, and Sutton has claimed that Boehly might decide to fire Potter anytime soon.

“It’s very difficult and frustrating for him [Potter]. I think he should be more forward-looking than he is now.
“But when you lose two of your main players within two or three minutes, it’s tough for him."
“But I think he’s nowhere near where he thinks his best team is." He’s nowhere near it.
“I think he’s still scratching his head and saying, "Where’s my best team?" If they hover around this 10th position in 12 games' time, then there’s a problem, and they [Chelsea’s owners] will no longer be happy.
“If they see that there’s an improvement and that at the end of the season they’re in contention for the top four, then I think a long-term project could come in... They’ll give him time.
“They’ll give him next season. But if they’re still like this... I don’t see where they’re going at the moment. I know it’s been tough.
“They’ve lost key players to injury, but when Tuchel lost key players to injury, he found a way around it." You get to do something. Yes, the money is there, but it’s not all about the money. "You have to spend it wisely.”
