Ally McCoist, a former player for Rangers and Scotland, thinks that Tottenham forwards Harry Kane and Son Heung-min should confront their manager, Antonio Conte, about the club's tactics.
McCoist claims that this season, Kane and Son have not performed to their full potential as a result of Conte's strategies.
He spoke following Tuesday's 0-0 draw between Tottenham and Eintracht Frankfurt, which came after their 3-1 loss to rival Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend.
Although Tottenham doesn't currently appear to be benefiting from Conte's three-man defense, he is known for his defensive style of play.
You look at a team like Spurs, obviously coming off a really poor performance, a poor result at the weekend in the derby game, and you are looking for a reaction, McCoist said in a statement to BT Sport.
I think Spurs’ strengths are in the forward area of the park. I don’t think anyone can argue with that. I think defensively, there are question marks. I thought the game they came back against Chelsea, they were a little bit more solid. Is this the turning point? But I don’t think so.
“The argument I think Spurs fans can make is that Conte is playing to his team’s strengths." I’m not sure. He’s clearly defensively minded in the way he sets up his team, and you have to say he’s very good at it. Spurs have only lost one league game this year, and that was the North London derby.
However, if I’m a Kulusevski or a Harry Kane or a Son and I’m in that Spurs team, I’m actually probably questioning the way we’re playing.”
