The Chelsea FC head coach; Frank Lampard has retaliated his unwavering support for the club N0 1 keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga after the player made a big mistake in their 2-0 loss to Liverpool.

Two goals from Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the victory in what could be a huge game in the race for the title.

Mane opened the scoring in the 50th-minute with a well-taken header in the box. The goal followed a well worked move from Reds players Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

The Senegalese then scored his second of the game following an error from Arrizabalaga.

Arrizabalaga received the ball close to his goal and was immediately closed down by Mane. The forward blocked his pass and calmly put the ball in the back of the net.

Speaking after the game to sport newsmen, Lampard said: “We showed moments on the counter-attack when we were dangerous in the first half. My team talk was be more confident on the ball then the red card changes the whole team talk.”

“I am happier today in many ways than after Brighton. I saw spirit and desire to defend, the midfield giving everything. Players should take heart, it’s how we go forward from League “With new faces we have got a month or so in pre-season. With the way we defended, I am very happy. We have to have time. Our process starts here. Our objectives and expectations are higher, but I saw a lot of character and spirit.”

Talking about Arrizabalaga, he said: “My job as a manager is to try to give Kepa confidence. It was a clear mistake and Kepa accepted that.”

Chelsea’s next Premier League game is away against West Brom on Saturday 26th September. Before then they face Barnsley in the Carabao Cup at home.

The boss was pleased to report a ‘pretty clean bill of health’ for the trip, with Kepa the only recent addition to the injury list because of a shoulder problem. Lampard confirmed Petr Cech will not be involved in a playing capacity, with Billy Gilmour the only other absentee.

Man United’s last home game was a 6-1 defeat to Tottenham, but they have since responded with two wins, most impressively away to Paris Saint-German in midweek. It was put to Lampard their recent results have summed up the unpredictable nature of the campaign so far.

‘We can talk about certain games where big teams have conceded a lot of goals, or there have been big turnarounds in games, but I’m not interested in that,’ said Lampard.

‘Man United are a very good team, we played them enough last year to know that, and I’m not concerned with what might have happened in games before.

‘There’s been an uncertainty within life and the game which has brought about the unpredictability we have seen in the early stage of the season, but we only have to focus on ourselves.

‘We have belief in this squad. We will see how things level out as the season goes on. I don’t want to predict how it might look like when we are this early into the season.’

Edouard Mendy starts, Hakim Ziyech sub - The Chelsea team Frank Lampard should pick vs Sevilla

Chelsea’s Champions League campaign gets under way on Tuesday night when they host Sevilla at Stamford Bridge.

It’s a big chance for the Blues to get back to winning ways against Sevilla, who have had a mixed start to their La Liga campaign.
