Earlier in the summer, there were rumors that the Frenchman would be moving to Real Madrid.
However, he decided to sign a new contract with PSG, where he has started the season on fire by tallying seven goals in five games.
Mbappe has played 222 games for PSG, scoring 178 goals and dishing out 88 assists in total. He believes he will win the Ballon d'Or as a result of his outstanding performances.
The 23-year-old said in an interview with the New York Times: "I think I'm about to win it [the Ballon d'Or]. I frequently claim to dream about everything. I have no limits.
So of course, like you say, it’s a new generation. And Ronaldo, Messi, you’re going to stop. We have to find someone else, someone new. "
Lionel Messi is a seven-time winner of the award, while Cristiano Ronaldo has won on five occasions, with Luka Modric the only other player to win the Ballon d’Or since 2008.
While Messi, Ronaldo, Modric, and Mbappe are shortlisted for the 2022 Ballon d’Or, Karim Benzema is currently the favourite to win the award.
