It took the intervention of the media and other people around to separate Malian players yesterday after their team lost 81-68 to Serbia on Monday to register their fourth straight defeat (56-89 against Japan, 58-118 against Australia, 59-74 against France) at the Women's Basketball World Cup.
The incident was caught on camera by Serbian television as they conducted an interview with one of their players following the victory in Sydney, Australia, but they noticed that the Malian players have engaged in ferocious brawl among themselves. The immediate cause of the fight cannot be established but it is believed that the players were blaming each other for the lost.
It will be recalled that Mali replaced Nigeria in the tournament after the government of Nigeria banned basketball activity for two years.
