The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has come forward to dispel what it terms as misleading reports.
Contrary to speculation circulating in the media, the NFF clarified in a statement issued on Wednesday that no ban has been imposed on Osimhen following his recent social media comments.
Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the General Secretary of the NFF, expressed astonishment at the spread of such misinformation. He emphasized that neither has the NFF initiated any disciplinary proceedings against Osimhen, nor has any decision been reached to bar him from the National Team.
Sanusi further urged the media to collaborate with the federation constructively to resolve any issues that may arise. He underscored the importance of focusing on overarching goals rather than unnecessarily escalating minor controversies.
He stated, “There was no official communication from the NFF, yet some persons have gone to town to talk about a ban on Osimhen from the National Team. This is not good at all."
Highlighting the federation’s immediate priorities, Sanusi emphasized the resolution of all pending matters concerning the Super Eagles. This includes preparing for the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the remaining matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series.
Sanusi stressed the importance of maintaining accuracy in reporting and refraining from spreading false information that could disrupt public discourse. The NFF remains committed to fostering a positive environment for Nigerian football and ensuring transparency in its operations.
