Nigeria's star striker, Victor Osimhen, faced a setback as he was unable to travel to Bouaké today due to abdominal discomfort.
The Super Eagles confirmed the unfortunate development on their official social media platform, stating:
"Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10 pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not, however, make the trip due to an abdominal discomfort. Team medics have confirmed that he is under close observation, with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5 pm."
Popular sports photographer Pooja also shared the news, saying:
"Just in; Victor Osimhen will not fly with the team to Bouaké tonight at 10 pm due to abdominal discomfort. Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch, with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5 pm."
This setback comes at a crucial time for the Super Eagles, who recently secured a spot in the AFCON semifinals after a decisive 1-0 victory over Angola in the quarterfinals. The entire nation awaits further updates on Osimhen's condition and hopes for his swift recovery to contribute to the team's success in the tournament.
